Eight Reasons Businesses Choose Us

Price is just the beginning. Here's what makes IBC Minneapolis different from every other option.

$

40-60% Cost Savings

A new 275-gallon IBC tote runs $300 to $400 depending on the supplier and specifications. Our reconditioned totes start at $120 and our Grade B used totes go as low as $80. For businesses buying 10, 50, or 100+ totes at a time, the savings are substantial -- often thousands of dollars per order. That money stays in your operating budget instead of going to a plastics manufacturer overseas.

A+

Every Tote Inspected & Graded

We don't sell mystery containers. Every IBC tote that enters our facility goes through a documented inspection process. We check the HDPE bottle for cracks, UV degradation, staining, and odor. We inspect the steel cage for bends, welds, and rust. We test valves and fittings for proper seal. Then we assign a clear grade -- A, B, or C -- so you know exactly what condition you're buying. Grade A totes are food-contact ready. Grade C totes are utility-grade for non-critical storage. No guesswork.

500+

Large On-Site Inventory

Our 12,000-square-foot Broadway facility holds 500+ totes at any given time. We stock 275-gallon and 330-gallon sizes in all grades, plus specialty configurations like caged rebottled units and composite IBCs. Need 50 matching totes for a production run? We can usually fill that from standing inventory. Need a specific valve type or food-grade certification? We've likely got it in stock or can source it within days.

24h

Fast Turnaround

Same-day pickup is available for sellers in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro area. Buyers can arrange next-day delivery for most orders. We maintain a fleet of flatbed trucks with liftgates specifically configured for IBC transport -- no waiting for a third-party carrier. For customers outside the metro, we run weekly route trucks along the I-94 and I-35 corridors, from Duluth to Rochester and into western Wisconsin.

30K

Expert Team

Our team has handled over 30,000 IBC totes collectively. We know the difference between a tote that held food-grade soybean oil and one that stored industrial degreaser -- and why that distinction matters for your intended use. When you call, you get someone who can advise on the right tote for your application, help you understand material compatibility, and recommend the most cost-effective option for your situation.

FLEX

Flexible Logistics

We pick up and deliver on your schedule. Need a standing weekly pickup of empty totes from your production floor? Done. Need a one-time delivery of 20 reconditioned totes to a job site in Burnsville? We'll be there. Our drivers handle the loading and unloading, and we can work with dock-height facilities, ground-level access, or anything in between. We also offer pallet-position storage for customers who need overflow capacity.

ECO

Environmental Impact

Every tote you buy from us is a tote that didn't go to a landfill. We provide environmental impact certificates with every purchase, documenting the estimated plastic diverted, CO2 prevented, and water conserved. For companies with sustainability reporting requirements or ESG goals, this documentation is valuable -- and it comes standard with every order, at no extra cost.

MPLS

Local Minneapolis Service

We're based in Northeast Minneapolis, and most of our team lives in the Twin Cities. We know the loading docks, the traffic patterns, and the industrial parks. When there's a problem, we don't escalate to a call center -- we drive over and fix it. That local accountability is something a national distributor simply can't match. Our business runs on repeat customers and referrals, which means we have a direct, personal incentive to get every order right.

Our Inspection Process in Detail

One of the biggest concerns people have about buying used IBC totes is quality. We get it. You're putting your product, your materials, or your chemicals inside these containers. You need to know they're sound.

That's why we've built a multi-point inspection process that's more thorough than what most people do with their new totes when they arrive from the factory. We check every detail because our reputation depends on it.

Any tote that doesn't pass inspection at its assigned grade gets downgraded or pulled from resale entirely. We would rather recycle a tote than sell one that doesn't meet the standard. Period.

Structural Integrity

Full cage inspection for bends, broken welds, and corrosion. The bottle is checked for cracks, bulging, and deformation under stress points.

UV Degradation Check

HDPE becomes brittle with UV exposure. We check for discoloration, surface chalking, and micro-cracking that indicates UV damage -- especially on totes stored outdoors.

Previous Contents Assessment

We identify what was stored in each tote through labeling, residue analysis, and smell testing. This determines whether the tote is suitable for food-grade, industrial, or utility use.

Valve & Fitting Test

Butterfly valves, cam-lock fittings, and cap seals are tested for proper operation and seal integrity. Worn gaskets and damaged valves are replaced during reconditioning.

Leak & Pressure Test

Reconditioned totes undergo a fill test to verify there are no slow leaks at seams, valve connections, or the bottle-to-cage interface.

Cleaning Verification

Reconditioned totes are triple-rinsed, pressure-washed, and visually inspected under bright light. We check for residual staining, odor, and any contamination.

Industries We Work With

Our customers span dozens of industries across the Upper Midwest. If your business uses, stores, or transports liquids in bulk, we probably have the right tote for you.

Our 12-Point Quality Promise

Every IBC tote we sell passes a rigorous 12-point quality checklist before it leaves our facility. This isn't a quick visual scan -- it's a documented, systematic inspection performed by trained staff. Here's exactly what we check.

01

HDPE Bottle Structural Integrity

Full inspection of the inner HDPE bottle for cracks, splits, punctures, and stress fractures. We check every seam, corner, and the base where stress concentrations are highest. Any visible crack, no matter how small, results in the tote being pulled from resale.

02

UV Degradation Assessment

HDPE degrades when exposed to prolonged sunlight. We check for chalking (white powdery surface), yellowing, surface brittleness, and micro-cracking -- all indicators of UV damage that compromise structural integrity. Totes with significant UV exposure are downgraded or recycled.

03

Steel Cage Frame Inspection

The galvanized steel cage is inspected for bent tubes, cracked welds, broken corner brackets, and excessive corrosion. We test the cage's rigidity by checking for flex at structural joints. A damaged cage means a tote that can't be safely stacked or transported.

04

Pallet Condition Check

Whether wood or composite, the pallet base is checked for cracks, rot, missing sections, warping, and load-bearing integrity. A compromised pallet creates a forklift hazard and can cause the entire tote to fail during handling. Damaged pallets are replaced during reconditioning.

05

Previous Contents Identification

We trace the previous contents of every tote through label inspection, residue analysis, chemical odor testing, and direct communication with the seller. This determines whether the tote is suitable for food-grade, chemical, agricultural, or general industrial use. Cross-contamination is not acceptable.

06

Valve Operation & Seal Test

The butterfly valve or ball valve is tested for smooth operation, complete closure, and leak-free seal. We check the valve body for cracks, the handle mechanism for wear, and the gasket seating surface for deformation. Failed valves are replaced during reconditioning.

07

Cap & Lid Seal Integrity

The top fill cap is tested for thread integrity, gasket compression, and airtight seal. We check for cross-threading, worn gaskets, and cap deformation that could cause leaks during transport or storage. Replacement caps and gaskets are installed as needed.

08

Interior Cleanliness Verification

Reconditioned totes undergo a bright-light interior inspection after washing. We check for residual staining, film deposits, particulate matter, and odor. The interior must be visually clean and odor-free before it receives its final grade. Any tote with persistent contamination is re-washed or downgraded.

09

Leak Testing (Reconditioned Totes)

All reconditioned totes undergo a fill test where the tote is filled with water and observed for slow leaks at the valve connection, the cap seal, any bottle seams, and the bottle-to-cage interface. Even a single drop of seepage results in the tote being pulled for repair or recycling.

10

Dimensional & Stacking Verification

We verify that the tote conforms to standard dimensions (typically 48" x 40" x 46" for a 275-gallon unit) and that the cage geometry allows proper stacking. Warped cages or bottles that bulge beyond the cage perimeter create stacking hazards and are not sold as-is.

11

Label & Marking Compliance

All previous product labels, hazard markings, and UN shipping marks are removed or clearly overmarked during reconditioning. Totes are re-labeled with our inspection date, grade designation, previous contents class, and any applicable compliance markings. Proper labeling prevents confusion in the customer's facility.

12

Final Grade Assignment & Documentation

After passing all eleven checks above, each tote receives a final grade -- A (food-contact ready), B (clean industrial), or C (utility/cosmetically rough). The grade, inspection date, inspector initials, and any notes are documented digitally and tied to the tote's inventory record. This documentation is available to the customer on request.

01

Local Craft Brewery

Northeast Minneapolis | 15-barrel production

Challenge

A growing craft brewery needed food-grade IBC totes for storing and transporting brewing water, sanitizer solutions, and cleaning chemicals. New food-grade totes at $350+ each were eating into their razor-thin margins. They were using 8-10 totes at any given time and replacing 4-5 per quarter due to wear.

Solution

We supplied 12 Grade A reconditioned food-grade IBC totes at $145 each -- all previously used for food-grade vegetable oil and triple-washed through our commercial system. We set up a quarterly rotation where we pick up their worn totes, replace gaskets and valves as needed, and return them reconditioned -- or swap them for fresh inventory.

Result

First-year savings of $4,680 on container costs. The quarterly rotation program eliminated the need to buy replacement totes entirely. The brewery has been on our rotation plan for 18 months and hasn't purchased a single new tote since. Their head brewer told us, "We should have done this from day one."

02

Chemical Distributor

Eagan, MN | Regional distribution

Challenge

A regional chemical distributor was spending over $180,000 annually on new IBC totes for their non-hazardous product lines (cleaning solutions, degreasers, coolants). They were buying 40+ new totes per month and disposing of empties through a waste hauler at additional cost. The disposal alone was running $8,000 per year.

Solution

We set up a complete cycle: we buy their empty totes for cash ($15-25 each depending on condition), recondition the reusable ones, and sell clean Grade B industrial totes back to them at $90-110 each. For totes that can't be reconditioned, we handle the recycling. Weekly scheduled pickups and deliveries keep their dock clear and their inventory stocked.

Result

Annual container costs dropped from $180,000 to approximately $68,000 -- a 62% reduction. They also earn $9,600 per year from selling us their empties, and they eliminated $8,000 in disposal fees. Total annual savings: approximately $129,600. They also report their ESG metrics now include 480+ totes diverted from landfill annually.

03

Urban Farm Collective

North Minneapolis | 3-acre urban farm

Challenge

A nonprofit urban farm collective needed large-scale water storage for their drip irrigation system and liquid compost tea storage. Their budget was extremely limited, and new food-grade water storage systems were priced at $500+ per unit. They needed at least 8 containers to sustain their growing season water requirements across three acres.

Solution

We provided 10 Grade B used IBC totes at a deeply discounted rate of $55 each for their nonprofit application. Our team helped them select totes that previously held food-grade materials (vegetable oils and corn syrup), delivered them to the farm site for free, and advised on gravity-feed plumbing configurations using the existing butterfly valves. We also donated 2 additional totes for their compost tea brewing system.

Result

Total cost: $550 for water storage that would have cost $4,000+ new. The 12 totes provide 3,300 gallons of total storage capacity and have lasted three growing seasons with zero replacements needed. The farm now irrigates 200+ community garden plots and produces enough vegetables to supply two neighborhood food shelves during the summer months.

04

General Contractor

Burnsville, MN | Commercial construction

Challenge

A commercial construction company needed IBC totes for temporary water storage on job sites -- for dust suppression, concrete mixing, and equipment cleaning. They were renting water storage tanks at $200/month each, and typical projects required 4-6 tanks for 3-6 months. Annual rental costs were exceeding $36,000.

Solution

We sold them 15 Grade C utility totes at $65 each for a total of $975. Grade C totes are cosmetically rough (scuffs, staining, minor cage dings) but structurally sound -- perfect for construction use where appearance doesn't matter. We deliver totes to job sites as needed and pick up empties when projects wrap. When a tote gets damaged beyond use on a job site, they return it to us for recycling and buy a replacement at the same low price.

Result

The construction company went from $36,000/year in tank rentals to a one-time purchase of $975. Even accounting for occasional replacements ($200-300/year for damaged units), their annual water storage costs dropped by over 96%. The totes are more portable than rental tanks, easier to move by forklift, and the company now owns them outright. They've since purchased 20 additional totes as they've taken on more projects.

05

Food Manufacturer

Fridley, MN | Sauce & condiment production

Challenge

A mid-size food manufacturer producing sauces, marinades, and condiments needed a reliable supply of food-grade IBC totes for ingredient receiving and inter-facility transfers. They were buying 20 new food-grade totes per month at $380 each and generating 15+ empties per month that their waste hauler was charging them to remove. Annual new tote cost: $91,200. Annual disposal cost: $5,400.

Solution

We implemented a comprehensive buy-sell-recondition cycle. We purchase their empties for $20 each (previously they paid to have them removed). We supply Grade A reconditioned food-grade totes at $155 each -- each one triple-washed, pressure-tested, with new gaskets and valve inspection documented. Twice-weekly scheduled pickups and deliveries keep their production floor clear and ensure they never run short of containers.

Result

New tote costs dropped from $91,200 to $37,200 annually. They now earn $3,600/year from selling empties (instead of paying $5,400 to dispose of them). Total annual savings: $63,000. Their quality team audited our Grade A totes and confirmed they meet all their internal food safety standards. The plant manager said the totes are "indistinguishable from new" for their application. They're now in their second year of the program.

Deep Industry Expertise

We don't just sell containers -- we understand the specific requirements, regulations, and challenges of every industry we serve. Here's the depth of knowledge we bring to eight key verticals.

Food & Beverage Manufacturing

We understand FDA 21 CFR 177 compliance for food-contact HDPE, FSMA requirements for traceability, and the specific cleaning protocols needed for totes transitioning between different food products. We know which previous contents are compatible with your application -- a tote that held vegetable oil can be reconditioned for corn syrup, but one that held a cleaning solvent cannot. Our Grade A food-grade totes come with documented previous contents history and cleaning verification.

Common applications: ingredient storage, inter-facility transfers, bulk liquid receiving, brewing water, sanitizer solutions

Chemical Distribution

Chemical compatibility is non-negotiable. We maintain detailed knowledge of HDPE chemical resistance -- which chemicals degrade polyethylene, which leave persistent residues, and which concentrations are safe for reused containers. We can advise on appropriate tote grades for non-hazardous chemicals including solvents, degreasers, surfactants, and agricultural chemicals. For DOT-regulated materials, we ensure totes carry proper UN markings and meet 31HA1 specifications.

Common applications: bulk chemical storage, customer delivery containers, dilution stations, returnable shipping containers

Agriculture & Crop Science

Agricultural operations use IBC totes for everything from fertilizer concentrate storage to pesticide application mixing to irrigation water holding. We understand the seasonal demand patterns (spring surge for planting, fall for harvest-season storage), the specific chemical compatibility requirements for agricultural chemicals, and the rugged conditions totes face on farm operations. We stock totes suitable for ag use year-round and can supply large quantities on short notice for seasonal peaks.

Common applications: fertilizer storage, pesticide mixing, seed treatment, irrigation water, livestock water

Craft Breweries & Distilleries

The Twin Cities craft beverage industry is booming, and most small breweries and distilleries can't justify the cost of new food-grade containers. We supply totes specifically selected for beverage industry use -- previously used for food-grade liquids, triple-washed, and inspected to eliminate any risk of flavor transfer. We also advise on tote configuration for common brewery applications like brewing water storage, cleaning chemical containment, and spent grain liquid collection.

Common applications: brewing water, sanitizer storage, CIP solution, spent grain collection, ingredient receiving

Construction & Concrete

Construction companies use IBC totes as temporary water storage on job sites, for concrete admixture storage, dust suppression water, and equipment wash-down stations. These applications don't require food-grade or even cosmetically clean containers -- our Grade C utility totes are ideal. We understand the logistics of job site delivery (ground-level access, crane lifts, tight spaces) and can coordinate delivery with construction schedules.

Common applications: water storage, concrete admixture, dust suppression, equipment cleaning, temporary containment

Paint & Coatings

Paint and coatings manufacturers have strict requirements for container cleanliness to prevent contamination that could affect color, viscosity, or chemical properties of their products. We supply clean Grade A and Grade B totes that have been inspected for staining and residue that could interfere with paint production. We also understand that this industry generates large volumes of empty totes (paint raw materials arrive in IBCs) and can set up scheduled buyback programs.

Common applications: resin storage, solvent holding, pigment dispersion, raw material receiving, batch mixing

Water Treatment & Environmental

Municipal water treatment plants and environmental remediation companies use IBC totes for chemical dosing systems (polymers, coagulants, pH adjusters), sample collection, and temporary containment during spill response. We understand the chemical compatibility requirements for water treatment chemicals and the operational demands of facilities that run 24/7. We stock totes suitable for common water treatment chemicals and can provide emergency delivery for spill response situations.

Common applications: chemical dosing, polymer feed, sample storage, spill containment, stormwater management

Commercial Landscaping & Irrigation

Landscaping companies and irrigation contractors use IBC totes for portable water storage, liquid fertilizer mixing, herbicide application, and rainwater harvesting systems. These are applications where our Grade B and Grade C totes excel -- functional, affordable, and available in quantity. We advise on valve configurations for gravity-feed irrigation setups and can recommend totes with specific valve types (2-inch butterfly vs. cam-lock) for different plumbing connections.

Common applications: water transport, fertilizer mixing, herbicide storage, rainwater collection, drip irrigation reservoirs
